Today, the News Media Alliance – representing almost 2,000 news organizations – called on Congress to allow publishers to negotiate collectively with dominant online platforms. The objective is to permit publishers to have concrete discussions with the two dominant distributors of online news content, Google and Facebook, on business model solutions to secure the long-term availability of local journalism produced by America’s newsrooms.
The News Media Alliance will join with Inland Press Association, Local Media Association and the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association as a partner of Mega-Conference 2018, Feb. 26-28, 2018 in San Diego.
Today Senate Rules Committee Chairman Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) decided to deny reporters permission to gather in the hallways of Congress. Thanks to Senate Rules Ranking Member Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), the decision was later reversed; however, we are deeply concerned that reporter access to U.S. Senators was even questioned.
