The News/Media Alliance celebrates the news that Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich has been released in a multicountry prisoner swap on August 1st.
On August 11, 2023, a small-town newspaper in Kansas, the Marion County Record, was raided by law enforcement. The raid quickly made national and international headlines, sending shock waves throughout the free press community.
On May 3rd, the News/Media Alliance joined 46 other organizations in a letter calling for the City of Asheville and Buncombe County Officials to drop all charges against two journalists arising from their arrest in December 2021.
Seven leading journalism, media, and pro-consumer antitrust advocacy organizations today sent a joint letter to President Joseph Biden calling on him to highlight, in his upcoming State of the Union address on February 7, the importance of local journalism. The letter highlights the urgent need for congressional action to preserve a strong democracy and a free press. Specifically, the letter urges President Biden to call on Congress to advance the bipartisan Journalism Competition and Preservation Act.
