News/Media Alliance Applauds the Reintroduction of the Journalist Protection Act

On July 23, Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) introduced the ‘Judicial FOIA Expansion Act’ in the U.S. House of Representatives, which would expand the right of public access to records under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to the federal judiciary, including the Supreme Court.

As members of the 117th Congress consider solutions to these challenges, the News Media for Open Government (NMOG) coalition calls on Congress to promote policies that bolster the First Amendment, the value of journalists, a free press, and a more transparent and open government.

The Fallen Journalists Memorial (FJM) Foundation, News Media Alliance, National Newspaper Association and National Association of Broadcasters today commended the U.S. House of Representatives on passing bipartisan legislation authorizing the FJM Foundation to establish a national memorial that honors the many reporters, editors, photographers and broadcasters who have lost their lives reporting the news.
