Alliance Signs on to Letter Opposing Utah bill Denying Access to Public Records

On February 25, the Alliance joined a letter by the Radio Television Digital News Association opposing Utah HB 399. That Bill would block the release of law enforcement officers’ statements during investigations regarding use of force cases. The letter explains that the Bill “would unreasonably shield some critical public documents and other information from reporters, and, more important, the members of the public those journalists serve by seeking and reporting the truth.” The Alliance continues to monitor legislation and cases that impact journalists access to public records and advocate for robust open records laws.
