Congressional Letter & Industry Statement on USPS/DOGE Agreement and Alliance Files Comments on USPS Service Plan

Following the announcement of the USPS agreement with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and US General Services Administration (GSA) on March 13, the Alliance participated in a call with the Coalition for a 21st Century Postal Service (C21) to coordinate an industry response. The statement sent on March 14 calls for a halt to the July rate increase and halt to the Delivering for America Plan. In addition, the Postmaster General sent a letter to Members of Congress on March 17, which outlines the initiatives the USPS has asked the DOGE and GSA to engage in.

The initiatives include:

  • Retirement plans
  • Workers Compensation costs
  • Unfunded Congressional mandates
  • Regulatory requirements
  • Retail center lease renewals
  • Leveraging postal infrastructure for federal agencies
  • Counterfeit postage

The Alliance filed comments on March 14 in response to the Postal Service’s proposed changes to the Service Performance Measurement Plan. The USPS would not count Sundays or holiday transit days for mail entered on Saturdays or the day preceding a holiday, which would delay a substantial proportion of Periodicals mail. We urge the Postal Regulatory Commission to not approve this provision.
