On May 5, the Radio Television Digital News Association with the Newhouse School at Syracuse University released the first report of a study finding more than one in five TV news directors reported a journalist in their newsroom was attacked in 2021. Most news directors reported 2021 being just as dangerous as 2020, despite a decrease in protests, riots, and civil unrest. These attacks vary from unprovoked assault, being detained by police, death threats, and more. The report says “attacks were much more varied and seemingly random” than in 2020. The report also indicated that larger markets have increased likelihood of attacks. Read more.
