Over the last year we have worked hard to refocus the Alliance on creating high member value every day. We have rebranded to better represent our evolving industry, created a platform for members to share innovative ideas, reimagined mediaXchange and are about to offer a free member-only digital analytics platform – among other things. The overall approach for the association is outlined in this strategy document, which Alliance President & CEO David Chavern recently presented to our board.
Now, we are proud to announce another critical member-value initiative: the introduction of a new dues structure that will provide significant dues relief to our members. Equally critical, the new structure accommodates print-only, print + digital and digital only members. In addition to the significant dues relief, we believe the new structure is transparent and straightforward, and provides the flexibility needed to keep pace with the continuing organizational and technological changes in the industry.
The Board were unanimous in their approval of the new dues structure and recognition of the benefit to members. The new dues structure method will be effective beginning Q2 2017.

Member Dues Structure
The following formulas will be used to calculate News Media Alliance member dues beginning Q2 2017:
If Dues are, or would be, $50,000 or greater under the following print/UV formula:
($0.28 x Daily Print circulation) + ($0.0016 x UV comScore) = Annual Dues
- Most recent year’s daily circulation excluding digital replica and non-replica
- Circulation totaled at member level, not individual papers
- Average monthly comScore for the past 12 months
- Same rate for digital-only members
If Dues are, or would be, less than $50,000, under the print/UV formula:
Existing members: 15% off current dues OR most recent year’s print circulation (as defined above) x $0.28 if less.
