News Impact Project

News impacts your life. Empower a more informed society.

Welcome to the News Impact Project, proudly showcasing the valuable work of journalists and newsrooms in local communities! The resources found here, including an Index of Impactful News and a print and digital Tool Kit for news publishers, provide compelling evidence of the critical need for continued local news coverage by quality journalists.

Access the Index and Tool Kit below and consider supporting your local news publishers through subscribing or making a donation, or simply sharing their good work with fellow members of your community, friends and family members.

Index of Impactful News

News is how we navigate our lives, whether it’s a new movie theater opening down the street, excessive spending of city officials, or a road maintenance project that will affect our daily commute. The stories contained in this database demonstrate the importance of and critical need for quality local journalism in order to ensure strong, informed communities. Access the index in two forms below: 1) A comprehensive listing of all stories in the index with links and 2) Featured stories on our blog that provide more insight and detail into how the stories came to be.

"Subscribe to Your Local Newspaper" Ad

The News Impact Project has produced an ad to run in your print and digital publications to encourage readers to subscribe to their local newspaper (yours!) Ask your readers to show their support by subscribing to your local newspaper. We have a full-color print ad (full- and quarter-page) and a digital cube ad for your use. The print ad can be customized to include your newspaper logo and contact information to purchase a subscription.

Tool Kit for News Publishers

The Tool Kit demonstrates the unique and important role local news publishers play in informing and engaging community members on important local issues. There is a clear call to action: In order for local news publishers to continue to reinvest in quality journalism, they need support from their readers.

Share this print and digital resource with government and community leaders and teachers to reinforce the civic role journalism plays in their home communities. Click on the button below to access the Tool Kit components and begin spreading the word (member login required).

Social Media Graphics

Inspired by the News Impact Project Tool Kit, news publishers can use these visually engaging, shareable graphics on their social media channels to highlight the critical importance and value of local news publishers, and encourage readers to support their local newspaper through subscribing.
