FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 10, 2018

Arlington, VA – The News Media Alliance has promoted Danielle Coffey to Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and Counsel. In this new role, she will be responsible for maintaining digital partnerships to identify business opportunities and eliminate barriers to a thriving and sustainable news industry; advocating for better business arrangements with digital platforms through legislative and legal solutions to level the playing field for the news industry, both in the U.S. and globally; and engaging in the digital regulatory environment relating to privacy, international and domestic agencies dealing with digital issues. She will continue to oversee issues that are related to protecting digital content through copyright protections.

Alliance President and CEO David Chavern stated, “I am very pleased that Danielle will be leading our efforts to seek better partnerships with the tech platforms as we explore new distribution outlets for our valuable content. This is a critical time for our industry and the tech platforms control a great portion of our subscription and advertising monetization, so it is imperative that they see the importance of healthy, mutually beneficial relationships with those who produce quality content such as news.”

“I can’t imagine a more exciting time to be a part of building a sustainable business model for the news industry,” stated Coffey. “There is an incredible passion among the leaders in this industry, both in their commitment to journalism and in experimenting and seeking new opportunities for growth. Consumers want to digest news and information in real-time, with flexible pricing and convenience. News organizations are being expected to meet increased demand with fewer resources, and that is something we all need to take very seriously if we want to maintain quality discourse in our personal lives and throughout society.”

Coffey joined the Alliance in April 2015 and has focused on the intersection of technology and public policy. She previously worked in the telecom industry for over 10 years, serving companies that were similarly disrupted by new technologies and distribution models. She is a graduate of the Catholic Law School. She is originally from San Diego and Los Angeles, CA and now lives with her family in McLean, VA.
