Oversight Committees Hold Congressional Postal Hearings & Incoming Committee Chairs

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee held an oversight hearing, “Understanding Proposed Service Changes” on December 5. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy was the sole testifier. Senators expressed major concerns to the Postmaster General, including rising USPS costs with a $9.5 billion loss this year, despite receiving $120 billion from Congress. Current Ranking Member Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), who announced he will serve as the Chairman once ratified, expressed strong disapproval of hiring 190,000 additional career workers and in-sourcing services and stated it is time for reform.

The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability held a hearing on December 10. DeJoy and USPS Inspector General, Tammy Hull, testified. Chairman Rep. James Comer, (R-KY) has been chosen again to lead the committee. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) was selected to serve as the Ranking Member on December 17. The Alliance and postal stakeholder organizations submitted questions.
