News/Media Alliance Joins Organizations Calling on Administration to Prioritize Reporters Taken Hostage

On April 14, the News/Media Alliance joined 25 other organizations, on a letter led by the National Press Club and National Press Club Journalism Institute, calling for the Biden Administration to prioritize the release of two U.S. journalists being held hostage abroad: Austin Tice, a freelance journalist who was taken hostage in Syria over 10 years ago, and Evan Gershkovich with The Wall Street Journal, who was imprisoned by Russian security forces in late March.

The Alliance also published a statement following Gershkovich’s arrest calling for his release.

The Alliance remains committed to supporting all efforts to protect journalists from threat of safety or liberty in the course of their important work.

The letter can be viewed in full here. Read more about Austin Tice’s story here.
