News/Media Alliance Joins Comments in Response to Proposed Amendments to New York City Press Credential Rules

On March 20, 2024, the Alliance joined a coalition of groups in submitting comments in response to the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment’s (“MOME”) proposed amended rules for press credentials. The comments, led by the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), express concern over some of the proposed changes, for example with the elimination of limiting language that would expand MOME’s ability to exercise unbridled discretion to suspend a press credential. The comments also express support for some of the proposed changes, including allowing for more flexibility in the methods for returning expired single event press cards. In addition to the Alliance, the comments were joined by several groups including the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, Radio Television Digital News Association, Society of Professional Journalists, and the New York News Publishers Association.
