FAA Drone Requirements Now in Effect

The Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) new rule providing for drone Remote ID requirements is now in effect. Operators who do not comply could face fines and suspension or revocation of their drone pilot certificates. Remote ID is necessary to ensure the safety and security of the national airspace system by distinguishing compliant airspace users from those potentially posing a safety or security risk. The News Media Drone Coalition, of which the Alliance is a member, sent a letter urging a delay in the deadline and expressed concerns about the availability of modules and firmware updates. The deadline was pushed back six months from its original deadline of September 16. Please see this FAA guide to aid with compliance.
