Arlington, VA – Artificial intelligence company Anthropic and a group of authors who had alleged the company’s use of their work in training its AI systems infringed their copyrights announced today that they had reached a preliminary settlement on a lawsuit brought forward by the authors.
In response to this news, Danielle Coffey, President and CEO of the News/Media Alliance, issued the following statement:
“This settlement reflects a growing recognition that content creators must be compensated when their works are used by AI companies. Big Tech needs to work with us in a sustainable way because they need the content we create. By establishing a clear set of rules around content use and compensation, publishers, journalists, authors, and other creators can keep creating the kind of content that consumers and AI companies value.”
