On January 15, 2026, the News/Media Alliance joined an amicus brief, led by RCFP, in NYT v. Department of Defense in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The brief highlights the importance of Pentagon journalism and examples of public interest news reporting on military and national security issues. The brief urges the Court to grant NYT’s motion for summary judgement, emphasizing the vast amount of reporting in the public interest fostered by journalists asking military personnel questions and how the Pentagon’s news credentialing policy is unconstitutional as it affords the Pentagon standardless discretion to punish reporters for asking questions.
