On March 10, 2026, the News/Media Alliance joined an amicus brief, led by RCFP, in Jackson v. Thomas Reuters America Corp. in the Fourth Circuit. The brief highlights the importance of the press’s editorial autonomy and ability of journalists to decide when information is in the public interest and argues that the West Virginia’s Daniel’s Law at issue would suppress truthful facts on matters of public concern, create traps, could chill news reporting, and cannot survive constitutional scrutiny. The brief urges the Fourth Circuit to affirm the district court’s ruling that found Daniel’s Law as unconstitutional. Read the full brief.
