Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), who serves on the Senate Finance Committee, submitted News/Media Alliance concerns on tariffs for the record at a hearing on “The President’s 2025 Trade Policy Agenda” on April 8. United States Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer, was the sole witness. The hearing included discussions about the President’s newly-imposed across-the-board 10 percent minimum tariff on all imports with exceptions for steel, aluminum, automobiles, auto parts, copper, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, lumber, critical minerals, and energy products. In addition, the hearing included discussions about the efficacy, implementation, and economic impacts of country-specific reciprocal tariffs signed by President Trump on April 2. Greer stated that the Administration is currently in trade negotiations with 50 countries.
