PRC Denies USPS Motion to Allow January Density Rate Increase

The News/Media Alliance filed comments on July 29 opposing the USPS motion with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) to calculate the FY 2026 density rate authority early. The Postal Regulatory Commission denied the request for a waiver on August 21 citing that the USPS failed to show good cause, failed to establish that the waiver is consistent with public interest, and that it will not unduly prejudice the interests of other participants. If the USPS wants to use density authority in FY 2027, it must wait until the April filing for a July increase or it can file in October 2027 for a CPI-only increase next January. The Alliance was cited several times in the order.
