The News/Media Alliance, joined by six other news organizations, urged NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to maintain the decades-long media access policy allowing the press to access player locker rooms for post-game and post-practice interviews. The letter is prompted by the NFLPA Executive Committee’s call to restrict press access to locker rooms.
The letter affirms the importance of player privacy, which has been upheld by members of the press and notes that the existing policy empowers players to request that an interview take place outside the locker room. As evidenced by years of quality journalistic coverage, locker room access allows for timely and candid interviews after pivotal moments, so journalists and their audiences gain better insights into players and teams—attracting and benefiting fans and contributing to the success of the NFL ecosystem.
