News/Media Alliance Joins Thousands of Creatives Rejecting Unlicensed Training of Generative AI Models

Today the News/Media Alliance, along with other 10,500 signatories, signed the Statement on AI Training that rejects unlicensed training of generative AI models on creative work. It is a critical time for creators and publishers around the world with multiple ongoing lawsuits in the United States and international governments debating copyright protections that protect artists, musicians, actors, authors, content creators, and distributors.

“When something is copyright protected, it’s because it has value—and that value is present throughout the creation, distribution, and wider public engagement timeline. Intellectual work needs to be protected all along this process and generative AI does not get a free pass to exploit creators and undermine the industries that support them,” said Danielle Coffey, President and CEO of the News/Media Alliance.
