Drone Coalition Sends Letter to FAA on Flight Restrictions

The News Media Drone Coalition, which NMA is a part of, sent a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on January 28 urging the FAA to immediately lift the Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR)  for all drones “in proximity to select location and mobile assets nationwide” including DHS “facilities and mobile assets, including vessels and ground vehicle convoys and their associated escorts,” which includes all DHS/CBP/ICE mobile assets, including cars.

On January 16, the FAA issued a notice imposing a TFR within 3,000 feet on the ground of any mobile DHS asset (meaning within about ½ mile), and within 1,000 feet above ground. According to the notice, operators who do not comply may face criminal charges and civil penalties, including revocation of FAA authorization, and/or seizure and destruction of the drone. The Alliance will continue to keep you apprised of developments.
