News Media Alliance Vice President of Membership discusses changes to membership criteria, her goals for the year, ways to get involved and her passion for travel.
I have worked in the association industry for over 12 years with trade and professional organizations and I must say that the Alliance is the most unique. Last year I was looking for something different and exciting – so when a friend forwarded me the job announcement I thought to myself – this is it! I knew after my interview with David Chavern, President and CEO of the News Media Alliance, that I wanted to be a part of the team. David was very passionate about his vision for the organization and the future of the news media industry.
What is your day-to-day like at the News Media Alliance?
My role at the Alliance is to lead membership operations by driving a superior member experience, increasing member acquisition, and enhancing membership connection and engagement. My goal is to move members from casual engagement to connected to committed. I am focused on learning as much as possible about our members – what’s working and what’s not, to ensure that we are providing them with the best resources and tools for continued success. I work very closely with Michael MaLoon, VP of Innovation to brainstorm ideas on how to improve current products and create new programs that our members will find valuable. Each day is different and brings new discoveries and possibilities.
What is the most exciting thing you’re working on?
The most exciting thing is our new online community, ideaXchange, a dynamic new platform that we’re launching for the membership. One of the things that keeps an organization growing and innovating is an engaged membership. Creating opportunities for our members to learn, share and collaborate is a fundamental element of our commitment to provide value to our members.
What are your three big goals for the year?
My three goals for the year are to grow our membership that now, I’m happy to say, includes digital-only news organizations; design a dynamic and interactive 2017 MediaXchange event and finally, leverage our network of publishers and news executives to create opportunities for greater collaboration with industry stakeholders in the form of roundtables, policy luncheons, and networking events. What is something your coworkers would be surprised to learn about you?
Some of my coworkers know that traveling and exploring the world is my passion, but they may not know that I have been to over 20 countries – next on my list is the UAE!
