Call for Impactful Stories

Calling all newsrooms and journalists!

We need your help to help demonstrate the positive impact local news has on communities for a new Alliance program called the News Impact Project. We’re assembling an index of impactful stories that provides compelling evidence of the critical work your organization is doing to drive support for local news in the form of subscriptions, donations and shares with others who will do the same.

We would like to hear from newsrooms, editors, journalists and others who are ingrained in the editorial process at your publication and who are intimately familiar with the stories you have produced that have been the most valuable, in terms of having a positive impact on the community.

Whether it’s a new movie theater opening down the street, excessive spending of city officials, or a road maintenance project that will affect our daily commute, news is how we navigate our lives.

We want the stories that can be labeled by journalists as, “Just doing our jobs.” It doesn’t have to have won a Pulitzer — it just has to have had a positive impact on the community!

Read more about the News Impact Project below and then send us your stories to ensure your publication is included in the Project!

We look forward to showcasing the valuable work you’re doing in your communities!

What is the News Impact Project?

The information we get from our local news is what allows us to engage in our communities and with our neighbors.

We news publishers, however, are in a fragile state. We can demonstrate the importance of local news — and drive support for local publishers — by building an index of impactful stories — stories you’ve produced and published — that members of local communities would not have learned had it not been for their local news organizations (you!)

The information we get from our local news is what allows us to engage in our communities and with our neighbors.

What happens after you send us your stories?

The News Impact Project will then publicize those stories, underscoring the importance news plays in the lives of communities. Through your submissions, we will educate and ask the public to stand up and be vocal for the value of a free press and support civic education (through donations, subscriptions and sharing) that will inform the next generation.

We will share the impactful stories as part of the News Impact Project, and we hope you will also post about their inclusion on your site and share with your followers.
